What is Crescent Nursing?
Crescent Nursing expands the concepts of parish nursing to Islam. Parish nursing offers preventive
and primary care in nontraditional settings, basing care on need (physical, psychological, sociological, or spiritual)
rather than reimbursement. Churches and synagogues offer the site and support system for the programs and activities
in parish nursing. In Crescent Nursing the mosque offers both location and support for the services provided. Crescent
Nursing tailors itself to the faith and followers of Islam, thereby approaching health for this population from a unique
perspective. The position of a Crescent Nurse is currently on a voluntary basis. The Crescent Nurse conducts activities
such as office hours, disease screenings, education about disease processes and medications and programs about health
conditions.
